Welcome to Stark Island

Stark Island is Located in the center of the Kankakee River, just west of the Desplains State Fish and Wildlife Area, and just east of Bardwell Island.  Stark Island was at one time considered part of Bardwell Island, along with a smaller island, now known as Ellis Island. These properties were purchased by James Kavanaugh in September of 1933, and remained owned by the Kavanaugh family until September 2007.
Stark Island This is a privately owned, three and one half acre island that was purchased by Douglas Stark, a Custer Park resident, in 2007, and declaration filed in Will Country permanently giving this property the legal name of STARK ISLAND.

Doug has been a local businessman in the area since 1978, owning and operating Stark's Auto Body and Towing until 2005. From 2006 to present, Doug owns and operates Starks Towing and Repair.
This island provides a lot of summer fun and activities for Doug's family and friends including spending weekends, fishing, boating, swimming, campfires, good food and volley ball on the sandbar at the west end of the island.

On weekends there is usually when is known as the Hogie Run.  This is a fun trip by boat to Mugz's Hideout at the Big Basin in Channahon to get some of the best sandwiches and beer in the world.

From this island, one could travel to anywhere in the world by boat from the Kankakee Rivers, using either the Desplains River through the Great Lakes to the ocean, or the Illinois River to the Mississippi River and to the Gulf.
Stark Island Fun!
Stark Island A property in Phelan Acres has now been purchased and will make available to Doug, his own boat launch and slip where his boat can remain in the water for the season.  It will be known by family and friends as Stark Landing!

Although it required a lot of work, this has become a dream come true for Doug and his Family!
